The CDC’s TRAIN Learning Network catalogs hundreds of online public health training opportunities on topics ranging from management & leadership to prevention & promotion. CE certificates available for many courses. 

Register for a free Health e Knowledge user account to access credible, self-paced online courses, such as the new 6-part course Informing Prevention: Understanding Adolescent Development. 

SAMHSA’s Prevention Technology Transfer Centers (PTTC) regularly offer free webinars on topics directly related to substance (mis)use prevention. The South Southwest PTTC serves Texas and surrounding states. 

Community Anti-Drug Coalitions of America (CADCA) provides 5 online courses after registering for a free CADCA learning account. Course topics include the Strategic Prevention Framework and marijuana, opioid, and tobacco use prevention. 

JBS International offers self-paced online courses like Fundamentals of Substance Use, Motivational Interviewing Basics, and Addressing Stigma – register for a free account and self-enroll. 

NAADAC, the Association for Addiction Professionals, delivers two free live webinars per month that are recorded and available for future viewing. While the main target audience is treatment providers, they do cover topics directly relevant to prevention. 

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) VetoViolence initiative lists free online tools and trainings, like the 1-hour Preventing Adverse Childhood Experiences course and the 0.5-hour Social Norms course. 

The Alberta Family Wellness Initiative provides this free, 19-module online course on brain development and its connection to addiction and mental health. Learners can receive a certificate in Brain Story science. 

This Texas Targeted Opioid Response-sponsored resource provides free online CE/CME opportunities on opioid-related topics. Click the link and scroll down to see the blue box on the left listing the Texas Opioid Training Initiative courses. 

The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio (UTHSC-SA) School of Nursing (SoN) provides free, live virtual training for the public on overdose prevention and education. Their webpage also includes naloxone administration and access information.

The Say What! movement offers free, self-paced online training modules that provide an in-depth look at a variety of topics related to youth tobacco prevention and enforcement. Participants receive access to downloadable resources and a certificate of completion.

Texas Suicide Prevention developed the new, free 1-hour AS+K? About Suicide to Save A Life Basic Course to help individuals satisfy suicide prevention gatekeeper training requirements of their programs/agencies.

Suicide Prevention Resource Center’s award-winning CALM: Counseling on Access to Lethal Means is a 2-hour online course focusing on how to reduce access to methods people use for suicide. The course provides 5 downloadable handouts.

As part of the National Child Traumatic Stress Network (NCTSN), the Learning Center for Child and Adolescent Trauma offers Free Online Education with over 300+ FREE CE certificates. Create a free account to access trauma-related training.

This free 5-hour online training from National Child Traumatic Stress Network serves as a companion course to Psychological First Aid. Participants learn how to help people manage distress and adversity and employ coping skills after a disaster or traumatic event.
