What do Substance Use Prevention Providers Do?

HHSC Region 7 Prevention Providers support communities through a comprehensive approach to substance use prevention. Youth Prevention Services deliver curriculum-based education in schools, focusing on building knowledge, skills, and protective factors that help young people make healthy decisions. Coalition programs bring together community partners to identify local needs, coordinate prevention strategies, and create sustainable, community-driven change. Prevention Resource Centers (PRCs) provide training, technical assistance, data support, and regional coordination to strengthen prevention efforts and support providers across the region.

Together, these prevention providers work across multiple levels of the community to address substance use risk factors before problems occur. By combining school-based education, community collaboration, and regional support, Region 7 HHSC prevention providers help ensure prevention efforts are evidence-based, culturally responsive, and aligned with local needs. This coordinated approach strengthens community capacity, promotes healthier environments, and supports long-term positive outcomes for youth, families, and communities across the region.
