What Do Local Mental Health Departments Do?
Local Mental Health Departments (LMHAs), plan, develop policy, coordinate and allocate and develop resources for mental health services in the in the local service area. Well trained staff can assist someone who is experiencing a behavioral health or mental health crisis. Outreach, screening, assessment and referral services are offered to those who are struggling with substance abuse.
Services provided to help strengthen family units include counseling, skills training, medication related services, and family training and support. Behavioral and emotional health services are provided to those who have experienced a natural or man-made disaster. Individuals who have developmental or intellectual disabilities will be provided the most cost-effective and efficient services available.
